Neoprene rubber is a type of synthetic rubber. The physical
properties of neoprene are much similar to natural rubber. It has a good
weather resistance and also moderately resistant to oil, heat and ozone fluids.
Neoprene is also referred to as polychloroprene. Due to its various kinds of properties,
this synthetic rubber can be used in wide range of applications.
Other well known properties of neoprene rubber are, gas
permeation resistance, ability to tolerate higher temperature range up to 200
degrees Fahrenheit. At 0 degree
Fahrenheit, this type of synthetic rubber becomes more stiff and hard. Neoprene
can be mechanically bond with materials such as stainless steel, aluminium,
brass and copper. Moreover neoprene has very low oxidation rate so that it can
be used in both indoor and outdoor environment.
Due to the fire resistant
property of latex, it is used in power transformers and many other electrical
applications.Wet suits, dry suits, gloves like aquatic protective
materials are made out of neoprene because of the thermal resistance property.
Since neoprene has high resistance to sun and ozone fluids, it is effective for
long term outdoor usage.
